Abstract

Social media has become integral to daily life, influencing how people access information, communicate, and express themselves. This
is particularly relevant for senior citizens, who face unique challenges and opportunities in the digital age. This study examines how social media usage affects online identity expression among older adults, addressing gaps in existing research. The study surveyed senior citizens in three Talavera and Nueva Ecija barangays using a descriptive correlational design. Key findings include that seniors predominantly use mobile phones and Facebook, displaying fair proficiency in navigating social media. Positive attitudes towards social media were common, with many finding it enjoyable and helpful in staying connected. Correlations were identified between educational attainment, knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions of social media usage and online identity expression. The study concludes that while social media helps seniors maintain social connections, knowledge gaps and potential risks exist. Recommendations include community-based training, digital literacy programs, and further research on social media's impact on seniors' well-being.
